Dust bath with Sentinel

I wonder what the difference to a bird is between a dust and water bath, perhaps none.

Dust baths absorb excess oils, eliminate or reduce parasites.

Thanks for the information.

Gorgeous. Is he (she?) a quail? Everything looks “quailish” except for the plumage.

The one standing guard is the male. He is gorgeous. I see them every day here at tree line. I’m still waiting for the babies… My camera is so ready!
She, is the one in motion, behind him. As is so typical, he stands guard and she forages or does whatever business is needed. It’s quite amusing to watch. He is good at his job, though. 🙂

What a knuckehead I am. YES, the birds are California Quail. Some of the male’s plumage appears as blue. He’s very beautiful. The little feathers on top aren’t just one feather, but five or so, I think… I haven’t seen them today – maybe the babies have joined the bevy!!

One of my boys and I saw a California quail yesterday while we were out on a walk. Wasn’t as pretty as yours, though.

Then it had to be a female. The males are so flashy – guess that’s the only way the gals would pay attention… 🙂
Glad the boys are interested!

When you have a chance – I started in on the rabbit stuff. Lots more to come. 🙂 When in doubt, get a guinea pig… or two.

It warmed my heart to see this. She’s always so busy, and he, leads, waits, watches. Precious.
