Dalai Lama was asked, “What thing about humanity surprises you the most?”
“Man…. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money.
Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health.
And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.”
“Sleep is the best meditation.”

Be careful about guilt by association. He may have found in Mao what most of us cannot see!

I don’t hold the Dalai Lama guilty by association. The Dalai Lama had his own agenda and may have been unaware of the horrors perpetrated on millions of Chinese people by Mao and his wife as well as turning the Chinese people against each other to a degree that I couldn’t imagine. Mao wanted to be God to the Chinese people, and he met his goal. Dalai Lama wanted Tibet.
I’ve read many books on Chinese history and the latest, one worth reading is “Wild Swans, Three Daughters of China” written by Jung Chang. Though not a history book, per se, it contains quite a bit of history, and an absolute must read.
